I am diagnosed with autism, severe anxiety, severe depression and EUPD with pseudo psychosis. I have been a young carer, have been under the mental health team for children when I was a teenager, I have experienced having carers come into my home for long periods of time every day, I have been under section on acute psychiatric wards, I have had social workers, care coordinators, psychiatrists, psychology, and have lived in both residential and supported living. In fact, I still live in supported living now!
I've experienced many things over the years, good and bad! Along the way I've learned lots of different skills, techniques and tips to help me manage not only in my daily life, but in society as a whole. I'm really passionate about helping other people like myself. I have been very fortunate to have supportive family and friends throughout the years, as well as meeting some incredible people working in the mental health system. I know not everyone is lucky enough to have this. That's where I come in! I want to give people that support, I want people to know that they are cared about, that they do matter. I want everyone to feel like they are accepted, valued and appreciated for who they are.
It hasn't been easy for me to get to this point and mental health and autism are a daily struggle. However, I know what I have needed in my darkest times and I have learned a lot about myself and how to use the right skills or techniques for me.
Peer support is all about working together. I want to use my experience to help you find what works for you. I will walk beside you, never infront and never behind.
I am developing a program that not only ensures the people I am helping feel supported but also peer support workers themselves. I'm building a team of people with different experiences, diagnoses, from all different backgrounds. Regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion or anything else. Everyone who needs support or wants to volunteer is welcome!
